Miriam Opal Woods was born on Aug. 30, 1918, in Appanoose County. She was one of 12 children born to Mary Eliza Cridlebaugh and George Clyde Jacobs.

Opal attended school in Centerville. As a youth she was a member of 4-H.

On Aug. 11, 1938, she married Albert Willard Woods. To this union four children were born.

Opal was a member of the Knoxville First Assembly of God Church. Her God and family were the center of Opal's life. Opal was an avid reader of Christian books. She spent her spare time gardening, both vegetables and flowers. The family fondly remembers Opal's cooking, especially her meat loaf, pie and fried chicken. Opal always enjoyed having dogs around.

Opal Woods died Monday, Sept. 25, at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 88.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 1974, three sisters and five brothers.

Those left to mourn her passing are two sons and their wives, Merril and Regina Woods of Knoxville and John and Jean Woods of Melrose; two daughters and their husbands, Marjorie and Ron Blough of Indianapolis, Ind., and Wanda and Ken Vande Linde of Overland Park, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren plus a new child to be born soon; two sisters, Ilo Savage and Wanda Kozeliski of Des Moines; one brother and his wife, Valley and Norma Jacobs of Centerville and one sister-in-law, Ruth Jacobs of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Sept. 29, 2006, at the Knoxville First Assembly of God Church. Memorials may be made to the Knoxville First Assembly of God Church.
