Voyce, Rodney Gene 1928-2006

Rodney Gene Voyce was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Banning, Calif., the son of Russell and Grace (Brack) Voyce.

Gene was raised and attended school in Pella. He attended AIB for two years before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served for four years during the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1953. He married Arleta Steele on March 12, 1961, in Knoxville. Gene worked in the mailroom at the V.A. in Knoxville for many years. He also farmed and raised sheep.

He loved to watch ball games, especially Central College, the Iowa Hawkeyes and any of the Knoxville High School teams. He also enjoyed playing cards with the neighbors.

Gene died Sept. 25, 2006, at the V.A. Medical Center in Knoxville at the age of 77.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donnie Voyce.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Arleta; daughters, Elaine Voyce (Lyndon Schroeder) of Urbandale, Teresa (Bill) Morgan of Bussey, Brenda (Gale) Happy of Maybee, Mich., and Vickie (Kello) Ramirez of Weslaco, Texas, and six grandchildren and other step-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville on Sept. 28 with Pastor Leo Freel officiating.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Military honors accorded by the United States Navy and the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post 168 and the V.F.W. John Myers Post No. 3519.
