Michael Lee Stanley was born on Oct. 2, 1952, in Nebraska City, Neb. to Dale Lee and Onita Marie (Ailes) Stanley.

Mike was raised in Nebraska City along with his younger sister, Lisa. Mike attended the Nebraska City schools prior to graduating in 1971. He moved to Knoxville in 1973, with his parents and was employed at his father's grocery store, Dales' IGA.

He enjoyed watching sports as well as participating in fantasy pools with his friends. His favorite activities included golfing, watching basketball and football and watching races. He traveled to many races throughout his life, from Indy cars and NHRA to sprint cars. He loved to share his passion of racing with others close to him. He also enjoyed spending time with his children. He spent much of his time with his grandchildren and thrived on being a positive teacher and role model for them.

Mike died on March 24 at the Pella Hospice Comfort House at the age of 53.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his children, Kris Stanley and Karen Smith, both of Knoxville and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on March 28 at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Dale Rittgers officiating.

Interment was in Marysville Cemetery.
