Carl W. Smith, 102, formerly of Otley, passed away April 1, 2006 in Springfield, Missouri.

He was born March 28, 1904 in Iowa County, Iowa, to Carl H. Smith and Dorothy K. Smith. On October 29, 1924 he was united in marriage with Mary Kroul of Victor, who preceded him in death in 1991. From this union two sons were born, Marvin C. Smith and Verlan R. Smith. Carl was a farmer, worked as a truck driver, and retired from the Pella Power Plant.

He loved to "tinker" on cars as a hobby and was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.

His wife Mary, a son Marvin, a grandson, his parents and one brother, Evered, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son Verlan, and wife Klista, of Springfield, Missouri and daughter-in-law Diane Smith, of Goodell, Iowa, as well as seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and special neighbor Roberta Klein.

Visitation was held at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home in Springfield on April 5 from 4-6 pm. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., April 7 at Bell Fountain Cemetery in Tracy.
