Neely, Wilma Ellen (Matthews) 1912-2006

Wilma Ellen Neely was born on Dec. 15, 1912, in Harvey to Virgil Frances and Faye (Woody) Matthews.

Wilma was raised in the Marion County/Pella area and graduated from Pella High School. She married Glenn Neely on Dec. 24, 1930, in Pella. The couple moved to Des Moines in 1940 where Wilma was a housewife. In 1959 she went to work as the head cashier for the Iowa State Conservation Commission, retiring in 1977. She and Glenn moved to Swan in 1970 and to Pleasantville in 1993.

Wilma loved being with her grandchildren and her family. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling and going on a trip each year. She liked to work around the house and in her yard and enjoyed the company of her dog. Wilma was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Wilma died on Feb. 22, 2006, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 93.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruby VanderWilt and husband, Joseph Glen Neely.

Survivors include her children, Linda Stickel of Pleasantville, Keith (Alice) Neely of San Antonio, Texas and Paul (Susan) Neely of Athens, Ala.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson and sister-in-law, Inez Mitchell of Knoxville.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 28 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Flagg officiating.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
