Miller, Lorraine (Van Ekeren) 1931-2006

Lorraine Van Ekeren was born to William and Mary Nicola Van Ekeren on May 25, 1931, at Pella. She received her eighth grade education at the Webster and Lincoln Grade Schools in Pella. Lorraine worked as a young woman for the Rolscreen Company in Pella for a few years.

In October 1949, she married Donald Miller and to this union one son was born, William. After their marriage, Lorraine encountered various health problems which led to her moving to the communities of Mt. Pleasant and Oskaloosa.

In 1990, Lorraine moved back to Pella and lived at 604 Maple Street, until becoming a resident of the Pleasant Care Living Center in Pleasantville in 2004. Lorraine died on Feb. 4, 2006, at the age of 74.

Survivors include her son, Bill Miller of Wheatland. Of her original family Lorraine leaves the following siblings, her sisters, Dorothy and her husband Wayne Howlett of Des Moines, Luella Van Ekeren of Reasnor, three brothers, Don and Linda Van Ekeren of Hartford, Marvin Van Ekeren of Knoxville and Tom Van Ekeren of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Throughout her years, she enjoyed collecting teddy bears, the company of her pet cats and spending time embroidering. Her family is overjoyed to know how much her Bible study sessions meant to her and that Lorraine loved the Lord and now lives with her own angels.

Interment was on Feb. 7 in Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Michael Kuhn officiating.

Memorials may be given to the Lorraine Miller Memorial Fund, c/o Van Dyk Duven Funeral Home.
