Kelderman, Lena (De Nooy) 1907-2006

Lena (De Nooy, Vander Woude) Kelderman, the second daughter of John A. and Christina (De Gonleg) De Nooy, passed away on June 2, 2006.

She was born October 8, 1907, north of Pella, Iowa. At the age of seventeen years she made public profession of faith in the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella where she was a member. She attended Grundy Junior College at Grundy Center, Iowa, and taught school in the elementary grades in Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois for thirty-three years.

In December 1950, she married Conrad Vander Woude who had two sons, James and Kenneth, living in the Chicago area. Conrad died in 1965.

After retiring from teaching in 1971, Lena returned to Pella in 1978. On October 27, 1979, she married William Kelderman residing at West Third Street in Pella. In July of 1993, William and Lena moved to Fair Haven East. When William went to live in the Long Term Care Center at the Pella Regional Health Center, Lena moved to Fair Haven West. After marrying William, she attended the Church of the Open Bible until William had to go to the care center. Lena then returned to Second Christian Reformed Church. She continued attending Dorcas at the Open Bible Church in Pella and the Priscilla Society at Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning. In her spare time, she liked to sew and do handwork.

She is survived by her brother and his wife: Fred and Goldie De Nooy of Pella; her step-children and their families; and many nieces and nephews.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Conrad Vander Woude and William Kelderman; her sister, Johanna Boat and her sister and brother-in-law, Nellie and Peter S. Rus; two brothers and their wives: John and Julia De Nooy and Andrew and LaVerda De Nooy.

Lena will always be remembered for her love for the Lord. She enjoyed spending time with family and caring for those she loved.

Burial took place at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Lansing Illinois on Thursday, June 8, 2006. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella was in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Back to God Hour; Pella Christian High School; Pella Christian Grade School.
