Paul James Kirkpatrick was born on July 31, 1917, in Warren County to Clarence Jennings and Inez Lucinda (Furnal) Kirkpatrick.

He was raised in Warren County and attended the Sandyville Schools. On March 15, 1937, he married Virginia Long in Osceola. The couple lived in Hartford and then Des Moines. In 1945 he moved to Pleasantville and went to work for Prange Trucking. Paul hauled everything through the years, including mail, gas and milk. He worked for Prange for over 34 years before retiring in 1982. He has also operated the North End Service for five years.

Paul enjoyed traveling and vacations. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Union.

Paul passed away on June 5, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 88.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a son, Jerry Kirkpatrick of West Linn, Ore.; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services were held on June 9 with Rev. Jeff Flagg officiating. Interment was in Pleasantville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasantville E.M.S. or to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
