Hollingsworth, Dean Robert "Barney" 1921-2006

Dean Robert "Barney" Hollingsworth was born on July 28, 1921, in Pleasantville to Sarah Elizabeth (Hodds) and Robert Hollingsworth.

Barney graduated from Pleasantville High School and held various jobs in the area, retiring from the lumberyard in Melcher. He served in the Marines in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He had been a resident at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown for the past several years.

He was proud to be a life member of the American Legion Post 108 and the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the volunteer fire department, St. Paul's United Methodist Church and had worked in county democratic politics and community activities in earlier years. He loved growing roses, building things, reading, educational television and calliope music.

Barney passed away on March 6, 2006, at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown at the age of 84.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Niles.

Survivors include his sister, Mary O'Neal of Boone; brothers, Wally (Myrt) Hollingsworth of Phoenix, Ariz. and Frank (Kathy) Hollingsworth of Pleasantville and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services were held on March 11 with Rev. Jeff Flagg officiating.

Interment was in the Pleasantville Cemetery. Military Honors were accorded by the United States Marines and the American Legion Post No. 108.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
