Harvey, Curt Allen 1960-2006

Curt Allen Harvey was born on April 5, 1960, in Knoxville to Ben W. Harvey and Carolyn S. (Woody) Harvey.

In 1962 he and his family moved to Pleasantville, where he graduated from high school in 1978. After high school, Curt started working for Pella Corporation where he remained for twenty-eight years. He married Mary Van Walbeek Schippers, on May 25, 1991.

Curt's greatest love and passion was for his family. Curt and Mary were truly best friends and soul mates, working together and playing together. He enjoyed spending time with the boys teaching them new things, watching them participate in school events and was very proud of their achievements. He also kept scrapbooks of the boys' cards, report cards and awards from the time they entered his life.

Curt was also a writer. He wrote for the Iowa Sportsman magazine. At various swap meets and sports shows he spoke about his personal experiences with hunting and fishing. In his spare time, Curt enjoyed coaching little league and flag football. He also enjoyed shed hunting, mushroom hunting, deer hunting, turkey hunting, and fishing. Curt was also a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. For many years he was a season ticket holder at the University of Iowa and one year attended a game at all the Big Ten stadiums and several bowl games. In the year 2003 Curt started the Red Rock Guide Service taking people fishing on Red Rock Lake.

He was a member of the Pleasantville Christian Church.

Curt passed away on May 24, 2006, at his home in Pleasantville at the age of 46. years, 1 month and 9 days.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Harvey and grandparents Donald and Jennie Woody and Wesley and Jessie Harvey.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; stepsons, Christopher Schippers and Zachary Schippers and his mother, Carolyn Harvey of Pleasantville.

Funeral services were held on May 27 at the Christian Church in Pleasantville with Rev. Walt Claussen officiating.

Interment was in Pleasantville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Foundation or to Hospice of Pella.
