Anna Mae Gildersleeve, 75, of Monroe, died Tuesday, March 7, at Skiff Medical Center, Monarch Wing in Newton. Funeral services were held March 10 at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Silent City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to United Methodist Church, Monroe Senior Housing Building Fund or the Monroe Public Library.

The daughter of Henry John and Marjorie Katherine (Tool) Brand, Anna Mae was born on April 15, 1930, in Otley. She attended country schools in Marion and Jasper County. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1948.

On March 19, 1949, she married Harold Wayne Gildersleeve in Monroe. Anna Mae attended Tools Chapel and was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. She worked in the accounting department at Maytag following graduation. She was the secretary for the superintendent at Monroe, worked at the Monroe Telephone Company, drawing up easements for underground telephone cable in the area and was a part-time city clerk in Monroe. Anna Mae also enjoyed decorating cakes and taught at Area XI Adult Education Cake Decorating Classes in Monroe, Prairie City and the Knoxville area. She served on the Board for Monroe Senior Housing, helped deliver meals to shut-ins in the area and later became the site manager for Monroe Congregate Meals.

She is survived by her children, Robert Dave Gildersleeve, and his wife Michelle, Gregory Dean Gildersleeve and his wife, Sue, and Debra Jo Routon and her husband, Chuck, all of Monroe. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Lonnie Joe Pearson, Jason Wade Pearson, Stacy Sue Gildersleeve, Jeremy Wade Gildersleeve, Amy Dawn Gildersleeve, Douglas Dean Gildersleeve and Scott Van Wyk; seven great grandchildren, Zachery Allen Pearson, Jamie Joseph Pearson, Gwendolyn Mae Pearson, Brandon Wayne Gildersleeve, Allyah Marie Van Wyk, Mackenna Jaden Gildersleeve and Wyatt Wayne Gildersleeve; a sister, Linda Louise Roush of Santa Cruz, Calif., two brothers, Henry Brand Jr., and his wife, Liz, of Knoxville and James Brand and his wife, Jane, of Monroe as well as a special friend, Imogene Daily.

Preceding Anna Mae in death were her parents, husband in 1998.
