Pleasantville News - Wilson Hilard, a miner 22 years of age in the Black Swan mines, at Swan was killed while at work early last Thursday morning by a fall of coal. He lived until he was brought to the surface, when he expired. He leaves a father and sister.

Hilard, in conformity to the practice of miners, fired a shot the night before, as he left, and, yesterday morning he went into his room to dig the coal. The shot had not thrown it upon the floor and he was engaged in digging in the pile of loosened coal with his pick when the heavy pile fell over onto him, crushing him to the ground. His head was crushed and be was otherwise injured about the body. State mine Inspector Morgan Thomas visited the scene Thursday and made a careful investigation and considers it a pure case of accident and holds that no one was responsible for the injury but Hi1ard himself. Hilard had been working in the mine about three months.
