On Monday afternoon of last week Wm. Emory, a farmer residing a few miles south of this city, started to this city for the purpose of bringing a couple of visitors to the train. Arrived at the top of the hill near C. K. Davis' residence in the southeast part of town, something broke about the harness. Mr. Emory alighted to adjust it, and was about to get into the wagon again when a sucking colt which accompanied the team kicked Mr. Emory in the side with both feet. He at once became unconscious, and Dr. C. W. Cornell was sent for. The doctor had him removed to the residence of Mr. Davis, but was unable to restore him to consciousness. Death ensued the next day.
The deceased was a man of 70 years, and leaves a wife and family to mourn his loss. It was a rather notable coincidence that his little grandson was killed by a switch engine in Des Moines the same day Mr. Emory died.
