Bain, Lucy Dies in Africa 1894

Pella, March 30 – Word was received from Africa last Monday evening of the death of Mrs. Lucy Bain, who was a student in Central the two preceding years. The letter was from Rev. Mr. Bain, the husband, who was also a student, having graduated last June. It was dated Jan. 27, so the death must have occurred over two months ago. This worthy couple started for the Congo field in Africa last August, arriving there in October, where they have been engaged in missionary work. Mr. Bain’s loss falls upon him very heavily, as it leaves him alone in a savage land. Upon reading of the letter at the college a committee, consisting of Miss Vada Beal and Messrs. Custer and Miller, was appointed to write a letter of condolence and sympathy, which was forwarded to Mr. Bain.
