FAUQUIER - Died, Thursday, Feb 27, 1890 in Adams township, Mahaska county, Iowa. HENRY C. FAUQUIER, in the 63rd year of his age.
Mr. Fauquier was born in Miami county, Ohio, July 20, 1827, went to the State of Indiana in 1848, and was married to Miss Harriet Woods, of White county, in the last named State,in 1849. Mrs. Fauquier is the sister of the Hon. Jas. K. Woods, now of Cowley county, Kansas, but who lived for many years in Mahaska county, a popular and highly respected citizen. It was the sister's great desire to have her brother at the funeral of her husband, which occurred on Sunday, March 2, and a dispatch was to that effect was sent him, but, for reasons unknown to the writer, he was not here. Mr. George Fauquier, a brother of the deceased, whose wife is also a sister of Mrs. F. in in California, and could not be present. Another brother, Owen Fauquier, living in Muscatine, was at the funeral.
There were born to this well-mated and happy couple eight children, five of whom are living. Frank E., Emma C. (now Mrs.Goddard), Dell C. (now Mrs. James Stafford), were at the funeral. Almedia p. who married James Fisher in 1880, died the 20th of January, 1885. Willie and Eddie died quite young. The deceased all rest with their father in Woods cemetery.
Mr. Fauquier moved to Iowa and settled on the place where he died, 39 years ago. The first time the writer met him, in the autumn of 1851, he read in his manly and handsome face what he proved to be through a long and intimate acquaintance - an honest man. He was strong in religious and political convictions, having settled them by his more than ordinary thinking powers. He lived by the golden rule, which made him a loving husband and father, a kind neighbor, and a true and faithful friend. Beside his good name he leaves a well-earned heritage in this world's goods, in the way of a well-stocked farm and comfortable home, to the enjoyment of those he loved.
The funeral was largely attended, at which the writer officiated in things spiritual, with Undertaker McCurdy in charge. The many tears shed as the last sad rites progressed spoke eloquently of tendrils of love that had been sundered, yet was their sorrow chastened by faith that separation was but for a season, and they would all soon meet again in that happy land where partings are no more. All that is mortal of Henry C. Fauquier sleeps the quiet sleep of death and awaits the resurrection morn. Peace to his ashes, and sacred be his memory.
