Helen V. Mitchell, 74, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, May 11, in University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Garrett Cemetery, Delta, the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. The body has been cremated. Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa, is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Delta to James A. "Brose" and Luella Adams Garrett. On July 4, 1942, she married Robert L. Mitchell in Kirksville, Mo. He died Jan. 15, 1949. She was employed as a clerical worker for an insurance agency in Omaha, Neb., for 30 years, until she retired and moved back to Oskaloosa in 1983.
Survivors included two sisters and a brother-in-law: Doris Mich of Oskaloosa and Phyllis and Dale Doggert of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and a daughter, Cheryl Ann Mitchell. (The Oskaloosa Herald, no date)
