Jasper Hiemstra, the son of Henry and Hazel Russell Hiemstra, was born Friday, May 23, 1924 near Tracy in Mahaska County, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was married to Betty Middleton on October 4, 1947, and she died June 30, 1964. He farmed west of Delta since 1947, and also had worked for Molyneux Tiling Company. He was a member of the American Legion in Delta.
On Wednesday morning, October 1, 1997, Jasper died at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa at the age of 73 years, 4 months, and 8 days.
Jasper is survived by his wife, Agnes of Delta; a son and his wife: Dennis and Kristi Hiemstra, and a daughter and her husband: Diana and Mike Brooke, all of Des Moines; 2 stepdaughters and their husbands: Teresa and Lonnie Norris of Eagleville, Missouri, and Diana and Randy Sherman of Oskaloosa; and a stepson: Patrick Riley of Delta; 2 grandchildren: Abbey Strupp and Matthew Hiemstra; 6 step grandchildren; and a step great-grandson. Also surviving are 2 brothers and their wives: Clifford and Carmel Hiemstra of Peachtree City, Georgia and Roland and Patty Hiemstra of Cedar Rapids; and 2 sisters and their husbands: Alveta and Bert Boggess of Oskaloosa and Darlene and Howard Strasser of Rose Hill. Besides his first wife, Jasper was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister: Virginia Baxter.
Funeral services were held in Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Friday, October 3, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Randall L. Baxter, officiating. Interment was in Indianapolis Cemetery. (From Jasper Hiemstra's funeral card)
