John H. Life, 74, of Cedar, Iowa, died Monday, October 4, 1999 at the Boone County Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
John Life was born March 28, 1925 at Oskaloosa, Iowa to Howard S. and Bertha Bain Life. He married Barbara L. Shaw on July 10, 1943 at Farragut, Idaho.
He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1943 and attended Coe College. He was a retired engineer from the Milwaukee-Soo Line Railroad. John was a member of the Cedar United Methodist Church and was a member of the Church Administrative Council. He was a Board Member of the Mahaska County Historical Society. He was a member and Board member of the Fremont Lions Club. He was a former Local Union representative of Railroad Employees and a member of the Milwaukee-Soo Line Railroad Retirees Coffee Club.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara L. Life of Cedar, a daughter: Barbara Jo Life of Nashville, Tenn, 4 sons and 3 daughters in law: Dr. Dennis and Diana Life of Columbia, MO, Greg and Linda Life of Oskaloosa, Brad Life of Ankeney, IA, and Chade and Kyle Life of Fort Myers, Florida, six grandchildren: Travis Life, Brett Life, Erin Life, Marc Life, Evan Life, and Sarah Ward, 1 sister and 1 brother in law; Mariann and Robert Webb of Cour d'Alene, Idaho.
He was preceded by his parents, 2 brothers: Patrick James Life and Frederick Michael (Mike) Life, and 1 sister, Jeanne Krupowicz.
Services were held on Friday, October 8, 1999 in the Cedar United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Julie Wehner presiding. Interment: Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa.
