KEOMAH VILLAGE - Marvin V. Anderson, 73, of Keomah Village, died Wednesday, July 19, at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Lanny Tuttle of Central United Methodist Church officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery, with masonic rites by Council Lodge No. 644 AF&AM, and military honors by the American Legion, VFW and DAV. Visiting hours are open at the funeral chapel, with family present 7-8 p.m. Memorials: Central United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Marvin V. Anderson was born Jan. 29, 1927, near Deep River, to Walter E. and Signa E. Larson Anderson. He attended schools in Lacey and West Center as well as Oskaloosa High School. He received his high school completion certificate after joining the Merchant Marines in 1944 during World War II, and served until 1946. He married Nora Lee Burbank on Feb. 14, 1949, in Ottumwa. He joined the United States Navy during the Korean War, with Pearl Harbor as his home port. After his military service he worked for Skelgas until 1956, then worked for McGregor Furniture Co., managing the Oskaloosa store until 1974. He then managed the McGregor store in Waterloo until retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Keomah Village City Council; Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa; American Legion; Council Lodge No. 644 AF&AM; and El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Lee Anderson, of Keomah Village; a sister and brother-in-law: Marie and James McCurdy of Ottumwa; a brother, Carl Anderson of Oskalosoa; two sisters-in-law: Betty Anderson of Oskaloosa and Beverly Farley of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Wilbur in infancy, Robert and Wesley. (The Oskaloosa Herald; date unknown)
