Retha Alexander, 84, of New Sharon, died Sunday, July 16, at New Sharon Nursing and Rehab Center in New Sharon. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Lanny Tuttle officiating. Burial: White Oak Cemetery east of Oskaloosa. Visiting hours will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with family present 7-8 p.m Tuesday to greet friends and relatives. Memorials: Mahaska Diamond Shelter.
Retha Alexander was born June 5, 1916, in Weber, Kan., and was raised by foster parents Charles and Hattie Alexander. She graduated from Rose Hill High School, and married Leemon O. Alexander in Delta. They farmed in Mahaska County, and since 1939 had farmed north of Oskaloosa. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Chruch in Oskaloosa, where she belonged to the JOY Sunday school class, and had been a member and past president of the women's society for many years.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Connie Alexander of New Sharon; a daughter and son-in-law: Donna and Stanley Hibelr of New Sharon; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leemon, on Dec. 12, 1971; her foster parents; a daughter, Doris Alexander; a grandaughter: Renea Alexander; 3 brothers and a sister. (The Oskaloosa Herald; date unknown)
