Jennie Groenenboom, 86, of 1004 Penn Bldv., Oskaloosa, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 1989 at the Mahaska County Hospital. She was born June 23, 1902 near Lynnville, the daughter of Gjalt and Klaaska Molenaar Heslinga.
She was united in marriage with Peter Groenenboom on Feb. 18, 1925 at Oskaloosa. Together with her husband, they farmed in the Adams Township and she continued living there after her husband's death on April 6, 1944, until moving into Oskaloosa in the fall of 1957.
She then did housework in private homes for many years and she helped make puppets for the Mahaska County Hospital Auxiliary to distribute to hospitalized children for 20 years.
She is survived by four sons, Harlan and Kenneth of Oskaloosa, Carroll of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Paul of rural New Sharon; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eva Van Wyk of Oskaloosa.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Chruch with Rev. Robert Drenton officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery.
There will be a family prayer service Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall of the church with Rev. Ken Dykstra officiating.
The family will be at the Newman Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School or the Mahaska County Hospital Auxiliary.
