NEW SHARON - Homer Lockard, 77, of rural New Sharon, died Monday, Jan. 15, 1996 at the New Sharon Care Center in New Sharon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating, assisted by the Rev. Doug Clark. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. A memorial has been established at Hospice of Mahaska County. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, 6:30 - 8 pm. at the funeral chapel.
Homer Lockard was born Aug. 19, 1918 in Mahaska County to Samuel and Patonia Allgood Lockard. He grew up on a farm near Union Mills and attended Mormon Point rural school. On Feb. 14, 1943, he married Arlene Andrews at Oskaloosa. They farmed near Union Mills in Pleasant Grove Township.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Paul Percell of Lamoni, Carol Fields and her fiancee Simon Brooks of Cedar Rapids, and Ronda (Verlan) Van Wyk of New Sharon; six grandchildren, Mike and Mark Maltage, Stacy, Amy and Katie Fields, and Courtney Van Wyk; six great-grandchildren; a sister and husband, Lois and Paul Gerard of Brooklyn; a brother and wife, Ralph and Hollis Lockard of Lacey; a brother-in-law, Leonard Souter of Grinnell; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 21, 1992; his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Cleo Lockard; and three sisters, Artie Noel, Vida Souter and Ethel Phillips (Oskaloosa Herald, no date).
