FROZEN TO DEATH. A MAHASKA TEACHER ONE OF THE VICTIMS OF THE BLIZZARD. Special to Daily Herald. LEIGHTON, IOWA, Jan. 17. - Last evening W.H. Lamar, of this place, received a telegram from Dakota announcing that his daughter Ella, who had been teaching school there for some time, in attempting to go from her school to her boarding place had got lost in the blizzard of last Thursday and was frozen to death. She had lived in this neighborhood for a number of years and was highly respected by all who knew her. Mr. and Mrs. Lamar and the brothers and sisters have the sympathy of this entire community. Her remains will be brought here for interment. One of Ella's scholars, a little girl, was with her and was also frozen to death (Oskaloosa Daily Herald, Jan. 17, 1888, p. 1)
