Dean Allen Newell, 67, of Sully and formerly of Oskaloosa area, died Tuesday , August 19, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born August 11, 1936 at Iowa City, the son of Zackie and Bertha Davis Newell. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1955.

He grew up in Oskaloosa and was married to Bonnie Moore on June 30, 1962 at Oskaloosa. They moved to Sully in 1965, and he worked at Pella Corporation for 40 years, lastly as a blade sharpener.

He enjoyed building model airplanes, camping, gardening, and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels, and World War II history.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Sully; 2 daughters : Kim ( & Kevin ) Musgove of Otley and Jill (& Dave) Crawford of Grinnell; as son : Allen Newell of Oskaloosa ; 8 grandchildren: Samantha, Michelle, and Allison Musgrove; Vanessa, J.J., Wyatt, and Tuesday Crawford; and Bailey Newell; his little buddy, Layne; 2 brothers: Donald Newell of Oskaloosa and Glen ( & Ruth) Newell of Rose Hill; and 3 sisters: Dorthy ( & Walter) Slycord and Opal ( & John ) Mattix, all of Oskaloosa; and Darlene (& Kenneth ) Hunt of Lacey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother :Dale Newell and 4 sisters: Doris Gerard, Leona Moore, Maxine Baltimore, and Helen McLoney.

Funeral services were held Saturday August 23, 2003 in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Elder Bill McDonald officiating. Burial was held at the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.

A memorial has been established in his name.
