Dale Max Smith, 89 of Oskaloosa, passed away on Wednesday, June 7th 2017 at Highland Ridge Care Facility in Williamsburg IA.
Graveside with military honors was held at 11 am on Saturday, June 10th at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Contributions may be made to the Dale Smith Memorial Fund in care of Lensing Funeral Home, PO Box 167, Iowa City, IA 52244.
Dale was born on January 7, 1928 in Oskaloosa IA, the son of George Smith and Pearl Olive (Brown) Smith. After his service in the United States Coast Guard, from 1945-1967, he was a Steel Press Operator at Kelderman Manufacturing and Carter Steel and Supply. A lifelong resident of Oskaloosa, Dale was married to Dorothy Rita (Lang), until her death in 1983.
Dale was an avid card player and coffee drinker. He was a lifelong University of Iowa Hawkeye Football fan and a season ticket holder for many years. He enjoyed gardening, good food and being around family and friends.
Dale is survived by his daughter Colleen Pearl Sheely and granddaughter Amber Jane Sheely, and his nieces Judy (Bob) Crawford of St. Paul, MN and Jackie (Bud) Rick of Mesa AZ.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Rita Smith, and his three sisters Frances Jane Stafford, Vivian Joyce Wymore, and Dorothy Jean Smith.
