Oskaloosa - The funeral of Oren McCurdy, 73, retired accountant, was held today at the Garland Funeral home. Rev. Gerald C. LaMotte of Central Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Forest Cemetery. His death occurred Saturday at 11 a.m. in University Hospitals in Iowa City, where he was a patient three weeks. The son of Charles and Mary Witt McCurdy, he was born March 11, 1889, in the White Oak community. Surviving are his widow, the former Josie Hess; a son Robert of California, and a daughter, Mrs. Floyd Latham of Oskaloosa, children of his first marriage; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Max Leamhart of Martensdale; a brother, Herman, of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Utterback of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Rosie Stephenson; four grandchildren. His first wife, Cecil, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Methodist Church and prominent in Masonic order and Knights of Pythias. (The Ottumwa Courier, September 17, 1962, p. 9)
