THOMAS - Mary Elizabeth Hinkle was born June 22, 1852 in Putnam county, Indiana. While she was yet a babe her parents moved to Illinois and then to Missouri and later on to Madison county, Iowa, and after living there two years, they came to Mahaska county, where she has since resided. She was the oldest daughter of Jesse and Louisa Hinkle and was married to Abraham R. Thomas, April 2, 1874, by Rev. Johnson, of the Christian church, of Oskaloosa, Ia. To this union were born six children, three girls and three boys, Mrs. Maud Victor, Ira O., Ernest C., Mrs. Louisa S. Huffman, and two, Dwight and Blanche died when little children. Besides her husband and children she leaves a mother, three sisters: Mrs. Mellissa Shaw, Rose Hill, S. Josephine Adler, of Indiana, and Mrs. Viola Williams of Beacon. She died June 4, 1909, and the funeral was held Sunday, June 6th, at the Spring Valley church near Rose Hill and interment was made in Wymore cemetery by the side of her children.
