Delmar Stevens (1927-2001)

Delmar Glen Stevens, 74, of Barnes City, Iowa, died Sunday, November 25, 2001, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born May 12, 1927 south of Barnes City, Iowa, the son of Lloyd Hugo Stevens and Blanche Myrtle (Wymore) Stevens. Toad, as he became known, served in the Army during World War II. Following the service, he returned to Barnes City where he began carpentering with his father and brother Norman (Chub). Stevens Brothers did carpentry work in Barnes City and the surrounding area. Chub died in 1987 and Toad continued the business until his death, a total of 54 years. he loved his dogs and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Toad never knew a stranger. He liked people and enjoyed visiting and attending area sales. He was a member of the Fuller-Sarvis American Legion Post No. 507 of Barnes City, Iowa.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Norman.

Glen is survived by his longtime companion, Connie Ehle of Barnes City, IA and her two children, David (& Lindi) Ehle of Belle Plaine, IA and Kristi Ehle of Garwin, IA; one brother, Orman (& Della) Stevens of Deep River, IA; one sister, Charlene (& Marcus) Morgan of Aurora, CO; nieces and nephews, Dan, Becky, John, Pat, Scooter, and Tud; and other relatives and many many friends.

Funeral service was held on Thursday, November 29, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor David Pinkerton presiding at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, Iowa.

Interment: Barnes City Cemetery in Barnes City, Iowa with Military Graveside Rites by members of Fuller-Sarvis Legion Post No. 507. This was a Watts Funeral Home service.
