Charles L. Walker, 78, of Eddyville, died Tuesday, March 28, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Michale Crouch officiating. Burial: Bellefountaine Cemetery, Tracy. Visiting hours begin 11 a.m. today, with family present 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorials: American Heart Association or American Diabetes Foundation. Charles Walker was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Mahaska County, to Charles E. and Anna Mangerson Walker. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1939. On Jan. 14, 1942, he married Helen Peters in Kirksville, Mo. Early in his adult life he farmed, and also worked at the old Iowa Valve (now Clow Corp.) for many years. In 1962, they moved to Boulder, Colo., and he owned and operated a landscaping business, Chuck's Lawn Service, and the Boulder Fence Company. In 1972 they moved back to Iowa and purchased the farm south of Eddyville, and farmed and lived there at the time of his death. He was a member of Monroe County Farm Bureau and the Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Helen Walker of rural Eddyville; a daughter and son-in-law: Georgina and Paul Fortune of Dearborn, Mich.; three sons and daughters-in-law: Duane and Patricia Walker of Eddyville, Dennis and Patricia Walker of Naples, Fla., and Darwin and Karen Walker of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Raymond and Ruth Walker of Rose Hill, and Cecil and Dorothy Walker of Des Moines; and a sister and brother-in-law: Mildred and Leslie Patton of Centerville.
