Obituary of Bertha Shoemake Fisher

Mrs. Bertha Shoemake Fisher, daughter of Ruth Ann and Isaac Shoemake, was born in Madison Township, Mahaska County, November 26, 1871, and passed away at the Mahaska Hospital on November 12, 1964, at the age of 92 years, eleven months, and eleven days.

She was united in marriage to Albert Fisher on November 7, 1894. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Goldie Hoffman of Fort Dodge, Mrs. R.M. (Luella) Donahey of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Arthur (Gail) Fudge, and Merlin Fisher of New Sharon.

Mrs. Fisher’s entire life was devoted to her home and family. She was, indeed, a dedicated Mother. She was converted at an early age and in her later years became a member of the New Sharon Methodist Church.

After the death of her husband in 1945, Mrs. Fisher maintained her own home until August of 1963, when she entered the Tower Park Nursing Home in Oskaloosa. Her cheerful acceptance of her infirmities endeared her to all.

Besides her children she is survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lean Phillips of New Sharon, Mrs. Harriet Rice of Ronda Beach, California, Mrs. Ada McCombs of Humeston, and one brother, Charles Shoemake of Newton.
