San Clemenete, Calif. - Dorothy Merrill, 78, of San Clemente, Calif., formerly of Oskaloosa, died at San Clemente General Hospital on Friday, Oct. 26, 1984. She was born Dec. 17, 1905, in Muscatine County, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Anna Kirchner Mapes. She was married to Joseph H. Merrill on April 28, 1930, in Oskaloosa. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1982. She is survived by on son, John Merrill of San Clemente, Calif.; one daughter, Anna M. Ronald of Spokane, Wash.; two grandchildren; one half-brother, Robert Mapes of Fort Madison; and two half-sisters, Lucille Mapes of Macob, Ill., and Mary Lou Murphy of Burlington. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Dr. Peter Fribley of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will be at the Garland-Van Arkel Funeral Chapel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday to greet friends and relatives.
