OSKALOOSA — Dwain Mueller, 83, of Oskaloosa died Feb. 28, 1994, at Mahaska Manor in Oskaloosa. He was born Dec. 26, 1910, in Bennett to Ezre and Bertha Ruser Mueller. He married Arvilo Simonsen on June 24, 1936. He graduated in 1929. He received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Iowa in 1933. He founded The Lowden Journal. In 1936, he and his wife became publishers of the What Cheer Patriot-Chronicle. They retired in 1963 and moved to Oskaloosa in 1968. He was a member of What Cheer United Methodist Church, where he served on the administration board, council of ministries and as treasurer. He also was a Sunday school teacher. He was later a member of Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. He served as chairman of the War Fund and Red Cross fund drive during World War II, served on the city council and was a member and past president of the school board. He was also a charter member and secretary for several years for What Cheer Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Marilyn Shadley of University Park and Annette Palmer of Suquamish, Wash.; three grandsons; and a brother, Merlin of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lee.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. William Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Garland-Van Aukel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Family visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mahaska County.
