OBITUARY OF JOHN ARNOLD
John Arnold was born in Eddyville, Iowa, January 1, 1858, and died at his home near Cedar, November 10, 1917, of pleuro-pneumonia, after an illness of 10 days, aged 59 years, 10 months and 9 days.
He was the oldest son of David and Eliza Arnold, both having preceded him in death, his father by only one month and twenty-seven days.
He was united in marriage to Florence G. Bassinger of Eddyville, November 7, 1883. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, one son Floyd H. and one daughter Dorothy J., aside from these, four grandchildren and one brother Eli D., of Ottumwa, Iowa, and one sister Mrs. Mary J. Fox, of Cedar.
He united with the M.E. church in 1878 and has been an active member ever since.
He was a great lover of nature and has planted many hundreds of trees at his home.
In his going we are losing from our midst one whose staunch traits of character have gone to the making of good citizenship, ever loyal to God and to his home. His life's battles are fought and he has responded to the call of Him "who doeth all things well."
A very appropriate funeral service was held from the home, November 12th, at two o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. Felt, and the body laid to rest under an evergreen tree he had planted in the Eddyville Cemetery.
