Roxie L. Ruby, 61, of rural New Sharon, died Friday, January 12, 2007, at his home. He was born June 15, 1945 at Oskaloosa, the son of Lawrence C. and Mae Mason Ruby. He graduated from the North Mahaska High School with the class of 1964. He continued his schooling at Indian Hills Community College in Centerville and earned his A.A. in auto mechanics in 1966. On June 18, 1966, Roxie was united in marriage to Cindy Jones at Centerville. In August of 1966, he entered the U.S. Army, and served his country for 3 years, stationed 2 years in Germany. Following his discharge from the military, he returned to Oskaloosa and worked for a short time at Crown Bowl. He then moved to rural New Sharon and joined his father and brother on the Ruby Fur Farm. After working on the fur farm for many years, Roxie went to work for Allen Barnhill Heating and Air. Later, he worked at Vogt Heating and Air, and lastly worked for Johnson's Heating and Refrigeration, retiring in 2006 due to ill health. Roxie attended many training seminars and earned many certification in the heating and air conditioning industry. He enjoyed operating his amateur radio, and was a member of the Mahaska Amateur Radio Club, and had served as president of that club.
His family includes his wife, Cindy Ruby of rural New Sharon; a daughter and her husband: Roxanna and Dane Patton of New Sharon; 4 grandchildren: Ryan, Nicole, Chase, and Cheyenne; a great grandson: Keaton; his mother: Mae Ruby of rural New Sharon; his brother and his wife: Randy and Merilee Ruby of rural New Sharon 2 nieces: Lori and Lacey Ruby; and a nephew: John Ruby.
Roxie was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services for Roxie Ruby will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Reverend David Pinkerton officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Graveside military rites will be given by the members of the Oskaloosa American Legion, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Visitation will begin at the funeral chapel on Tuesday after 10 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Roxie Ruby Memorial Fund.
