ROSEMARY MCMILLIAN

OSKALOOSA--Rosemary "Granny Lou" McMillian, 88, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital in Oskaloosa.

She was bon December 22, 1923, at Mahaska County Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Hazel Davis Evans. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1942. On April 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to Gentry "Jiggs" McMillian at Neosho, Missouri; Gentry died February 6, 1992. Early on she worked at the Big Smith Overall Factory in Oskaloosa. In the mid 1950s she went to work for Oskaloosa Produce and retired from there in 1985.

Rosemary enjoyed playing cards, bowling, shopping, and dancing. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and Free Methodist Church. Rosemary displayed a servant's spirit throughout her life as she was always willing to give and help others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Her family included her children, Ellen (& Howard) Thompson of Oskaloosa, Rita Voss of Oskaloosa, Terry McMillian of Oskaloosa, and Charlie (& Bert) McMillian of New Sharon; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Michele, Melinda, Jason, Nicole, Teresa, Channa, Crystal, Lisa, and Karie; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Dale (& Jean) Evans of Conroe, Texas, and Wayne (& Lorene) Evans of Wagram, North Carolina.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Caryn McMillian; son-in-law, Dale Voss; brother, Charles Evans; three great grandchildren, Zane, Enzo, and Tatianna Fleurestil.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Charlie McMillian and Reverend Daryl Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Beacon Cemetery near Beacon, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Monday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the New Hope Free Methodist Church.
