Mrs. Florence M. Stanley, 1008 A Ave. East, Oskaloosa, Iowa, died at her home December 26, 1961 following several years of failing health.

She was born November 7, 1874 in the family home near Freeport, Ohio, the oldest daughter of Thomas Elwood and Mary Hibbs Ridgway. She came to Iowa in 1882 with her parents who settled in the Bear Creek neighborhood north of Earlham.

She was united in marriage March 20, 1901 to Josiah Stanley and they lived on a farm near Eddyville until their retirement.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons: Clara of Oskaloosa; Mrs. H. N. (Helen) Guthrie of Winona, Minnesota; Mrs. E. H. (Emma) Hargis of Tempe, Arizona; Thomas E. of Denver, Colorado; Clarence W. of Eddyville; twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1938, her parents, one sister and two brothers, two daughters, Mrs. John (Fern) Ver Ploeg in 1948 and an infant.

Mrs. Stanley was a birthright member of the Conservative Society of Friends, remaining in that faith for her entire life. She was highly respected in the community in which she lived and was often called upon to help in times of trouble. A devoted wife and mother, she loved her home and was content to serve her Lord in this manner.

Funeral services were held at Garland Chapel Friday, December 29, with Rev. L. E. Kennedy of the First Baptist Church in charge. Burial was in Friends Cemetery at Oskaloosa.
