Dr. Franklin Cleo Perkins, 83, of Hedrick, died March 17, 1986 at Ottumwa Manor.

He was born March 18, 1902 in Mahaska County to George Alexander and Dora Bond Perkins. He attended country school and graduated from Fremont high school in 1921. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1928. He was a member of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity and interned in internal medicine and neurology at the University of Iowa. He married Fern Hawthorne on Nov. 25, 1927, in Edina, Missouri. In 1928 they moved to Hedrick, where he practiced for 52 years.

He was a member of United Methodist church, past master of Masonic Lodge 485 AF and AM and member of Eastern Star Chapter 362, Davenport consistory and Ottumwa Shrine Club. He was a charter member and first president of the original Lions Club in Hedrick. He had been a long time member of the Hedrick Savings Bank board. He was lieutenant commander in the Navy in WW II, receiving a medical discharge. He was a pioneer in soil conservation and T.B. testing of cattle in the early 1930’s. He was a member of the rationing board appointed by the governor. He was a past president of the Keokuk County Medical Society and a member of the Wapello County Medical Society.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard Perkins and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Roger Lee Perkins.

The service was March 20 at the Hedrick United Methodist church, the Rev. Reth officiated the services with Kermit Black assisting. Burial was in Memorial Lawn cemetery, Ottumwa.
