MARGARET ELLEN STOUT STEPHEN

Margaret Ellen Stout was born at Columbus, Ohio, March 28, 1840; departed this life at her home in this city (New Sharon, Iowa), Saturday morning, April 17th, 1915, at the age of 75 years, 2 weeks and 6 days.

She was united in marriage to Andrew J. Stephen, November 8, 1858. To this union were born sixteen children: William H., John M., Francis (Frank) V., Charlie D. --who died at the age of 24, Elizabeth (Lib) H.--who died at the age of 42, Mary Jane, Anna H., Louisa C., Emma E., Jennette (Net) J., Joseph R.--who died at the age of 37, Elijah (Lige) A., Oscar G., Ulysses G., P. Allen and Herbert N.

She united with the Methodist Episcopal church at a very early age, and continued faithful to the last. She leaves to mourn her departure, one sister, Mrs. Anna E. Nash, Clancy, Montana, thirteen children, seventy grand children and nine great grand children.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Monday afternoon, Rev. W. S. Gardner, officiating and interment was made in Friends Cemetery.

All of the children were present at the funeral except Mrs. Kate Knapp, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Mrs. Emma Campbell, of Hale Center, Texas. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Smith Hyett and family, of Belle Plaine; Mr. and Mrs. D. Hughes and family, of Oskaloosa; Frank Stephen and family, of Malcom; Allen Stephen and family, of Belle Plaine; Misses Lela and Lizzie Hughes, of Newton; Mrs. Hazel Carney and baby, of Mason City; Mrs. Bessie Marsh and son, Miss Helen Stephen, Mrs. Gussie Heinzman, all of Des Moines; Fred Hyett and family and Phillip Hyett, Searsboro; Ray Johnson and family, of Montezuma; Charlie Knapp, of Colorado Springs, Colo.
