Visitation: Will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2007 at Garlan-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening to greet visitors.
Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2007 at College Avenue Friends Church with Rev. Tom Palmer officiating.
Interment: Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa

Darrel Ensz passed away on Sunday of a short illness at the Clarissa C. cook Hospice in Bettendorf, IA at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 25 days of age.

Darrel Ensz, son of John and Mamie Perry Ensz, was born April 23, 1923, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a 1941 Marion, South Dakota High School graduate. While at church camp as a youth, Darrel met the love of his life, Vera Arlene Messer; they married February 18, 1943 in Trenton, Iowa. Darrel furthered his education at C.E.I. in Chicago and Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana, from which he graduated in 1962. He served as a pastor for numerous churches following his education at C.E.I. and while he was in school at Bethel College. Following his graduation he was employed at Vennard College in University Park, Iowa, where he served as a Professor and Dean of Students. In 1955 he received his Master's Degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa and in 1956 he began working at William Penn College in Oskaloosa as Professor and Dean of Students. He took a job with the State Department of Rehabilitation in Ottumwa in 1967 for one year and then took a position at Indian Hills Community College as an administrator. He remained there until his retirement in 1985, at which time he and Vera moved to Bettendorf to be near their daughter. In 2003, Darrel and Vera returned to Oskaloosa, where their son, John was living. Recently, ill health required their move back to Bettendorf. Darrel enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. He was a member of the College Avenue Friends Church in Oskaloosa and recently had attended the First Baptist Church in Davenport.

His family includes his beloved wife Vera; his children: Judith and Alan Flax of Bettendorf, IA; and Joe Armissah of Milwaukee, WI; his grandchildren; Robert Flax of Bettendorf, IA; Pamela and Russell Laws of Lincoln,NE: Eric and Jessica Flax of Bettendorf, IA and Keisha Armissah of Milwaukee, WI; and his great-grandchildren and "buddies": Zachery McDearmon, Alax Flax, and Daniel, Benjamin and Rachel Laws. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Donald & Martha Ensz of Marion, SD; sisters and brothers-in-law: Evelyn & Raymond Butterfield of Marion, SD; Elaine & Wesley Tschetter of Marrion, SD; Martha Beckman of Marion, SD; and Alice and Donald Burling of Aurora, NE.

He was preceded in death by a son, John and a sister, Mary Lou Gray.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
