Bellsora Barbee was born in the state of Indiana on May 13, 1825, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. I. M. Knicely in Clarence, Missouri, January 17, 1913, aged 87 years, 8 months and 4 days.

She lived in Indiana until seven years of age, when she moved with her parents to Illinois, where she remained and at the age of fifteen she was converted and joined the M.E. church. At the age of eighteen she came with her parents to this part of Iowa and settled in this township. On December 19, 1844 she was united in marriage to Wm Lacey and eight children blessed this union, five of whom survive; Mrs. I. M. Knicely, of Clarence, Missouri; Mrs. Martha Cunningham, of Belleville, Kansas; Mrs. Susan Griffis, of Iola, Kansas; Charles Lacey, of Silver City, Iowa, and Oscar Lacey, of Colorado.

The remains were brought to Fremont and the funeral was held Monday afternoon at the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. W. S. Gardner, pastor of the local church, and interment was made in the Cedar township cemetery beside that of her husband who passed away May 19, 1893.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were the three daughters of the deceased, Mrs. Mattie Knicely Danby, of Clarence, Missouri; Mrs. Emma Nesbitt and J.W. Zaring of Oskaloosa.
