Died, Feb. 4, 1910 at her late residence in East Des Moines Township, six miles southwest of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Halfy Eggleston covey, of old age aond a slight stroke of apoplexy. She was born in Broome County, New York, Feb. 26, 1824, and was married to Hiram P. Covey, a resident of that state in 1845. Two years after their marriage they left their old home and emigrated to the far west as it was called then and located on a farm near the Des Moines River, now known as the Norman Patrick farm.
Mrs. Covey, though small in stature and delicate in appearance, possessed a remarkable constitution, seldom possessed now by one of her sex. She always had energy and vim to buoy her on and seldom complained of aches or pains or the hardships endured in her pioneer life. She retained her remarkable energy and health up to and near time of her death.
Her late husband preceded her in death at the age of seventy-six years.
In 1857 they removed on their present farm in East Des Moines Township, where they resided until death.
To Mr. and Mrs. Covey were born three children. The oldest (Charlotte) is now the wife of A.T. Plum, who resides one and a half miles northeast of Given. Daniel M., the only son, owns and occupies the old home place. The youngest daughter, Alice Rowe, died Dec. 23, 1897. Deceased had seven living grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was a member of a family of six, three of whom preceded her in death.
The funeral service were held at the Union (#3) schoolhouse, sunday, Feb. 6th at ten o'clock a.m., by the rev. Harrington of Oskaloosa, in charge of the undertaker, E.M. Cheeseman, and her remains were laid away in their last resting place by the side of her husband in the Union (Henness) Cemetery.
And well may it be said "Well done thou good and faithful srvant."
