Miss Delia Rietveld passed away at her home in North Pella, Sunday morning, June 11, 1916, after four years of patient suffering with cancer at the age of 50 years, 7 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church in Pella, Tuesday afternoon, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Bailey, former pastor of the Baptist church of that place. The services, which were very simple and impressive, were carried out according to the request of the deceased. The scripture lesson was the 21st chapter of Revelations and the text chosen was John 3:16. The floral tributes were many, showing the high esteem in which she was held. Interment was made in the Flaur cemetery.
The deceased was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Rietveld and was born and grew to young womanhood five miles south of Pella, at which place was her home until last October, she moving then with her mother to Pella, where she passed away. The deceased leaves to mourn her departure, her mother, two brothers and seven sisters, her loving father having preceded her to the heavenly home last August.
Delia, from the time she was a young girl until her health failed, had always given freely of her time and strength to public work. For twenty-five years she was a successful school teacher, having taught in the rural and city schools, and always had great love and admiration for her pupils and for all those whose lives were brought in touch with hers. She was the favorite one with all the children and grandchildren especially, and was ever trying to please and entertain them. The quality that drew others to her may be found in her love of life, and her example and counsel helped others to meet life bravely and cheerfully. She had firm convictions and was very loyal to the cause of Christ and rendered unto it her wholehearted support. She was converted in early girlhood and ever after lived a true Christian life. Though she is gone to forever live with her blessed Saviour, her good deeds and kind words will never die.
