Hedrick Journal: Mrs. Rachel Beck died Saturday evening at her home in Hedrick, after a long illness, aged 72 years, nine months and eleven days. The funeral was held Monday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. H. N. Smith, vice president of Iowa Wesleyan University, assisted by Rev. C. B. Hankins, pastor of the Hedrick M. E. church. The interment was in the Brooks cemetery, west of town.
Rachel Zaring was born near Indianapolis, Indiana, October 14, 1839. She was united in marriage with David Beck, Oct. 13, 1860, near Fremont and to them eight children were given, two of whom died in infancy, and one Olive, dying at the age of 15 years. Five of them, Mrs. Etta Darner, Charles, Chester, Lamont, and Ernest survive to cherish the memory of a noble Christian mother.
