Herald--Pickney F. Barr, an old time resident of Oskaloosa died at his home in Denver, Sunday, at the age of about sixty-four years. Deceased was an old soldier, a member of Company D, Thirty-third Iowa He was a son of M. S. Barr, a pioneer resident, and Oskaloosa was his home until after the war. He was a double cousin of Marq Barr and a brother-in-law John F. Lacey and W. R. Cowan, of this city. Cary C. Barr, a brother resides at Streator, Illinois. Deceased was one of the best known civil engineers west of Chicago and his work is an enduring monument to his ability. He was assoicated in his early study with the late Alex Tracy, for years county surveyor in Mahaska county. He went west soon after the war and became identified with railway building in the west. He built the Santa Fe Line from Chicago to Kansas City and planned and constructed the interurban lines between Minneapolis and St. Paul. He planned and surveyed many lines of railway in the Rocky mountains in Colorado and found paths for most of now celebrated scenic routes in that state. He was the engineer for the Denver & Rio Grande railway and built and planned the famous hanging bridge in the Arkansas canon. He planned and constructed the railway known as the "high line to Breckenridge," and accomplished feats of engineering that have placed his name among the most eminent men of his line in the country. Funeral was held in Oskaloosa and interment made here by the side of relatives.
