R. H. Strong dead

R. H. STRONG living three miles west of Coal Creek died very suddenly Tuesday, April 24th, of heart failure aged 71 years and 18 days.

Mr. STRONG has been in his usual health all winter. Last Saturday he was in town happy and cheerful as could be and took dinner with his daughter, Mrs. J. T. FLETCHER. He became ill at 4 o’clock p. m., Tuesday but insisted it was nothing serious and declined to have a doctor called. His friends saw that he was seriously ill and went to the phone to call a physician but before they were through talking he had passed quietly into the beyond. He was sick but 30 minutes.

Mr. STRONG was one of the finest men we have known, always pleasant and social. It was a delight to have him call in this office for a friendly chat, as he frequently did when in town.

Robert H. STRONG was born in Fayette County, Pa., April 6th, 1835. He was married to Mary GADDIS, October 15th, 1860. He was honorably discharged from the service of his country at Lynchburg, Va., on the 15th day of June 1865 with the rank of Corporal. He was a member of Company G. 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He served his country over three years. He and his family removed to Iowa and their present home in March 1875.

He leaves a wife, three sons and three daughters to mourn his loss. The children are: J. C. and J. R. STRONG who live on farms adjoining their father; Will Strong of Tempee, Arizona; Mrs. R. DEAN, of Coal Creek; Mrs. W. A. [Andrew Willis] McGUIRE of Armah; and Mrs. J. T. FLETCHER of this city. Two others died in infancy.

The funeral was held at the residence at 10 o’clock this morning conducted by Rev. W. H. Kelley of the Presbyterian church in this city. Interment at Indianapolis cemetery. All the children were present at the funeral except Will.

The Patriot offers sympathy to the bereaved family and feels his death as a personal loss of a valued and trusted friend.
