ANNA MAE STROUD - OBIT

Funeral services are being held at 2 p.m. today for Mrs. Hubert A. STROUD, who passed away at 3:15 Monday afternoon, Jan. 15, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa [IA]. She was 45 years of age. The Rev. Claude J. Wood will officiate at the service. Erwen Ehrenhard and Mrs. Mac Lee will sing, accompanied by Kenneth Weber. Interment will be made in Brooks cemetery at Hedrick [IA].

Mrs. Stroud’s illness has been of almost ten months duration. The first sign of her serious illness was Feb. 23. After a short hospitalization, she seemed improved but the cause of her illness wasn’t definitely determined until she had tests at the University Hospital in Iowa City [IA]. She underwent surgery March 31 for a brain tumor, which proved malignant. After about two weeks there, she was transferred to the Mahaska Hospital for x-ray treatments.

While the results of the x-ray treatments were only temporary, she improved to the extent that she was able to return to her home and help with the work around the house. She got out some to enjoy visits with friends, and she and Mr. Stroud, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe STROUD of Hedrick, took a vacation trip to Colorado last summer. The decline was gradual but it wasn’t until four weeks ago that she had to re-enter the hospital.

The entire communities of Fremont and Hedrick and for many miles around, join the family in paying respect to one who has served the community so well in the time of their sorrows, and who has been a friend to all.

Mrs. Anna Mae STROUD was the daughter of Frank W. and Eva HALSTEAD FISHER, and was born in Mahaska County [IA], near Cedar, Oct. 31, 1916. The family moved to the Hedrick community when she was quite young and she lived there until her marriage Dec. 16, 1939 to Hubert A. STROUD. At that time, Mr. Stroud became manager and director of the Fremont Funeral Chapel, and she has helped him with the work throughout the 22 years of service.

She was a member of the Hedrick Christian Church and of the Mahaska Chapter No. 17, Order of Eastern Star, at Fremont.

Surviving are her husband, Hubert A. STROUD; her mother, Mrs. Eva FISHER of Hedrick; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Hazel) BOYDEN of Albuquerque, NM; and Mrs. Paul (Blanche) FOLTZ of Westminister, CO.

She was preceded in death by her father, April 16, 1947.
