Elizabeth Bernice, daughter of Valentine and Anna BRUBAKER, was born near Cedar, [Mahaska Co., IA] March 4, 1883, and departed this life March 24, 1929, aged forty-six years and twenty days. Her entire life was spent in that community.

She was married to Clifford McEWEN February 12, 1908. To this union two children were born, Cole, who preceded the mother seven years ago, and Burdene. Those left are the husband, Clifford McEWEN, daughter Burdene, her mother, Anna BRUBAKER, two sisters, Mrs. Edith PURDIN of Fremont [Mahaska Co., IA] and Mrs. Ethel FERGUSON, of Cedar; four brothers, Ed of Oskaloosa, [Mahaska Co., IA] Will and Ernie of Cedar and Bert, of Fremont. One brother, Harlan is deceased.

She confessed faith in Christ seven years ago and united with the M.E. church at Cedar. . . . Her death, though untimely, was expected. It was not an experience of dread to her for she thought of it as an end of suffering and a time when she would pass out of things she did not want into things she did want. She has passed into the presence of the one she loved and served and into the presence of Him who loved her where there is joy and peace forever more.

Funeral services were held at the Cedar M.E. church, Tuesday at 2:00 o’clock p.m. Rev. Purdy had charge of the service and music was furnished by the Cedar quartette. Interment was made in the Fremont cemetery.
