Jesse HAINES, son of Wm. And Ellen A. Haines was born March 15, 1864 in Carroll Co., MD, and passed away at his home in Fremont [IA] at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday evening, October 8, 1947, age 83 years, 6 months and 23 days.

Left an orphan at an early age, he made his own livelihood, leaving Maryland and coming to Tazwell Co., IL at the age of 14 years. Here he engaged in farming. He married Katie A. HALLSTEIN, Jan. 30, 1839. March 1, they migrated to Seward, NE and in the spring of 1907 the family came to Fremont, IA located on a farm northeast of Cedar [Mahaska Co., IA]. He had since made his home in the Cedar-Fremont community.

His wife, two sons, Jesse C. and Elmer G., three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Four children survive. They are Ora H. BURCH and Wm. L. HAINES of Fremont; Homer E. of Lewistown, MO and Kathryn C. TRIBBY of Rhodes, IA. Also twelve grandchildren, Cedric, Haines and Dwight BURCH, LeOra SIGLER, Eva Nell DITLEFSEN, Kate and Joan BURCH; Garrett and Jack HAINES, Sally Bette McCHRISTY, Bunnie Jean HAINES and Carolyn TRIBBY, and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Fremont Methodist church, Oct 11, with Rev. R.D. Harper in charge. Burial was in Cedar Twp. Cemetery [Mahaska Co., IA].
