R.W. MOORE IS DEAD AT CEDAR
Succumbs Following Illness Of Several Months

Richard W. Moore of Cedar , pioneer, civil war veteran, prosperous farmer and land owner, and influential republican, former member of the county board of supervisors, whose name is closely linked with the history and development of Cedar township and Mahaska county, diedat his home at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, April 28, 1930, at the age of 87 years.

Mr. Moore's death occurred after several months' of illness and was due to senility, his health having been infirm for a number of years.

He was connected with the organization of the Farmer's National Bank of Oskaloosa, and was the owner of a lumber yard in Cedar. As a member of the county board of supervisors 22 years ago, he was responsible for many substantial improvements. He organized the Methodist society at his home in 1869 and aided in constructing the church in the town of Cedar.

John W. Moore, his father, lived in Warren county, Indiana, and moved to Iowa a year after R. W. Moore's birth. He took up land in Harrison township, Mahaska county, where his son was reared. In February, 1864, Richard Moore enlisted for service in the civil war, joining company B of the 36th Iowa Volunteer Infantry at Ottumwa.

After returning from the war in 1865, he returned to his farm near Cedar, engaged in grain raising and livestock breeding.

He leaves one son, F. F, Moore of Cedar, one daughter Mrs. Belle Votaw of Apopka, Fla., four grandsons, and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at the Cedar M. E. church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 30 with burial at Kirksville.
