The New Sharon Star, February 22, 1940. Gasper ADKINS Dies at Age of 67 Sunday. Gasper ADKINS, son of Abner and Mary Jane ADKINS, was born in Stork Co., Illinois, September 22, 1872 and passed away at his home in New Sharon, February 18, 1940, at the age of 67 years, four months and 26 days. When just a small boy he moved with his parents to New Sharon, where he resided the rest of his life with the exception of just a few years that he lived in Jasper County, Iowa. He was united in marriage August 12, 1903 to Lila THOMPSON of Lynnville. To this union was born five children, namely, Mrs. Earl HULT, of New Sharon; Mrs. John MINOR, of Oskaloosa; Gasper, Jr., of New Sharon; Miss Lucille ADKINS, who lives with her parents and Willburn of Polk City, Iowa. He was employed as a section hand on the M. & St. L. railroad for a number of years, worked for some time in the Williams Coal mine east of town, and four years as a day laborer, thus making many acquaintances in the community. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his wife and five children, one brother, Joseph ADKINS and one sister, Cora ARDEEN both of New Sharon, 13 grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian Church with Rev. Ralph E. McCAULEY, pastor of the Assembly of God Tabernacle officiating. He used for his text Heb. 4.....4-16. Miss Rose BROGAN and ....DUFFUS accompanied by ...Mrs. Dale PHILLIPS sang three songs: "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "Going Down the Valley One by One", "Shall We Gather at the River." Casketbearers, all nephews of the deceased were: Chas. MOORE, Elmer MOORE, Jake ADKINS, George ADKINS, William ADKINS and Joseph ADKINS. Interment was in the North Cemetery.
